MY VISION
I believe that everyone with lung disease should have the opportunity to improve their quality of life, and to not be embarrassed by their symptoms or be limited in their day-to-day activities.
By partnering with you, working closely with your Specialist, considering more than just your physical health, and implementing evidence-based treatments, I will reduce the impact your condition has on your life.
About Me
Timothy Daley
Bachelor of Physiotherapy
AHPRA Registration: PHY0002134817
Medicare provider number: 1585991W
I completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2017 at Charles Sturt University in Orange. I worked with Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District during my new graduate year, before moving to Canberra Hospital in 2019. Since then, I have worked across all acute adult and paediatric wards and have been involved with outpatient Respiratory services, including Bronchiectasis Clinic, Cystic Fibrosis Clinic (adult and paediatric). I opened my own business in 2024 and continue to work at Canberra Hospital across inpatient cancer wards, and outpatient Respiratory services.
I have a passion for helping people with lung disease both when they are admitted to hospital, and after they are discharged to help them manage their symptoms in the medium- and long-term. In particular, I have an interest in helping people clear mucous from their lungs (airway clearance) and giving people strategies to improve their breathlessness.
I have built strong relationships with local Respiratory Specialists, and work collaboratively with them and other health professionals including General Practitioners, Speech Pathologists, Dietitians, and Pelvic Health Physiotherapists to ensure the best possible outcome for your health.
Since 2024, I have been a member of Lung Foundation Australia and the Australasian Bronchiectasis Consortium, which is a specialist-interest group of adult and paediatric clinicians and researchers who are passionate about improving the care and lives of all Australians with bronchiectasis. Being part of the Consortium has broadened my professional network, improved my understanding of this condition, and afforded me opportunities to be involved in research to improve access to service for people with bronchiectasis.
Fundraising for Lung Disease Research
Recently, I conquered sections of the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory to raise money and awareness for the wonderful work of Lung Foundation Australia. We hiked 54km over 3 and a half days, including summiting Mount Sonder for sunrise - a 3am start!
As a group, we raised over $27,000 that will be used to fund vital research, advocacy, awareness, and services for people with lung cancer and chronic lung diseases.
Services
Currently, we do not see clients for exercise programs as we do not have the facilities or technology to facilitate this.
Inspiratory Muscle Training
Our breathing muscles can get weak in the same way that your arm or leg muscles can. This can be the result of prolonged time on a ventilator, severe illness, chronic lung disease, or heart disease.
I can provide you with the means to strengthen your breathing muscles so that they work more efficiently to help reduce your breathlessness, improve your exercise tolerance, and your quality of life.
Airway Clearance
Many people with lung disease will have difficulty clearing mucous from their lungs. This increases the risk of chest infections, which will cause more damage and may lead to increased breathlessness and even more mucous to be produced.
If you have frequent chest infections, lots of mucous, or have difficulty clearing your mucous, then I can assist you with education and breathing exercises to improve your symptoms and reduce the frequency of your chest infections.
Dysfunctional Breathing
Dysfunctional breathing is a broad term for when someone has breathlessness that does not match their lung condition. It can be due to hyperventilation (when you breathe too quickly), an abnormal breathing pattern, or can even be influenced by your mental health and your overall quality of life.
I can assess for potential underlying causes for your breathlessness and implement simple strategies to reduce the impact it is having on your life.
